Hard African Funk, Afro-Jazz & Original Afro-beat


A África é o continente de origem, o vértice de vários ritmos. A mistura do Jazz, com batidas fortes e o Funk Groove com solos rítmicos, tudo isso misturado fez aparecer diversos termos para tentar denominar este som maravilhoso. Li vários textos, tentando achar um consenso, mas Hard African Funk, Afro-Jazz & Original Afro-beat, ou simplesmente Funk Jazz parecem se aproximar mais ainda. Segue uma coletânea rara para fãs do gênero.






 Club Africa vol 1 é uma maravilhosa coletânea de afrobeat lançado pelo selo Strut Records em 2000 simplesmente só sonzeira do início ao fim.

America - Folk Rock


America is an American rock band that was formed in London in 1970 by Dewey Bunnell, Dan Peek, and Gerry Beckley. The trio met as sons of US Air Force personnel stationed in London, where they began performing live.

Achieving significant popularity in the 1970s, the trio was famous for its close vocal harmonies and light acoustic folk rock sound. The band released a string of hit albums and singles, many of which found airplay on pop/soft rock stations.


The band came together shortly after the members' graduation from high school, and a record deal with Warner Bros. Records followed. Its debut 1971 album, America, included the transatlantic hits "A Horse with No Name" and "I Need You"; Homecoming (1972) included the single "Ventura Highway"; and Hat Trick (1973), a modest success on the charts which fared poorly in sales, included one minor hit song "Muskrat Love". 1974's Holiday featured the hits "Tin Man" and "Lonely People"; and 1975's Hearts generated the number one single "Sister Golden Hair" alongside "Daisy Jane." History: America's Greatest Hits, a compilation of hit singles, was released the same year and was certified multi-platinum in the United States and Australia. Peek left the group in 1977, and their commercial fortunes declined, despite a brief return to the top in 1982 with the single "You Can Do Magic".

The group continues to record material and tour with regularity. Its 2007 album Here & Now was a collaboration with a new generation of musicians who credited the band as an influence. America won a Grammy Award for Best New Artist and were nominated for Best Pop Vocal Group at the 15th Annual Grammy Awards in 1973. The group was inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2006 and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2012.

Love, Peace & Poetry - Obscuro Psychedelic Rock Music


Love, Peace & Poetry is a music compilation series created by Thomas Hartlage. The records explore obscuro psychedelic rock music from specific regions around the world. The series began in 1998 and is released by QDK Media and Normal Records on compact disc and vinyl.
The model on the cover of all the albums is Cheryl Shrode, a go-go dancer and model who appeared in Playboy in 1967. The photos were taken by Bunny Yeager.

I just don't know what inspired Thomas to do that musical research, but he did an excellent work. Great Psychedelic Music all around the world. Another mistery is Cheryl Shrode on all covers. I like the pictures but why she is on the cover of a Turkish Psychedelic Rock collection?

Mais uma coleção rara direto do baú do Javanês. Rock psicodélico de diferentes partes do mundo. Cada álbum traz a música psicodélica de uma parte do mundo, nos anos 60-70. O do Brasil é muito bom, com uns caras (bandas) que não conhecia. O da Turquia e do Japão foram uma surpresa... Vale a pena.

Journey - Rock (USA)


Journey is an American rock band that formed in San Francisco in 1973, composed of former members of Santana and Frumious Bandersnatch. The band has gone through several phases; its strongest commercial success occurred between 1978 and 1987 when Steve Perry was lead vocalist. During that period, the band released a series of hit songs, including "Don't Stop Believin'" (1981), which in 2009 became the top-selling track in iTunes history among songs not released in the 21st century. Its parent studio album, Escape, the band's seventh and most successful, reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and yielded another of their most popular singles, "Open Arms". Its 1983 follow-up album, Frontiers, was almost as successful in the United States, reaching No. 2 and spawning several successful singles; it broadened the band's appeal in the United Kingdom, where it reached No. 6 on the UK Albums Chart. Journey enjoyed a successful reunion in the mid-1990s and later regrouped with a series of lead singers.

Sales have resulted in two gold albums, eight multi-platinum albums, and two diamond albums (including seven consecutive multi-platinum albums between 1978 and 1987). They have had eighteen Top 40 singles in the U.S. (the second most without a Billboard Hot 100 number one single behind Electric Light Orchestra with 20), six of which reached the Top 10 of the US chart and two of which reached No. 1 on other Billboard charts, and a No. 6 hit on the UK Singles Chart in "Don't Stop Believin'". In 2005, "Don't Stop Believin'" reached No. 3 on iTunes downloads. Originally a progressive rock band, Journey was described by AllMusic as having cemented a reputation as "one of America's most beloved (and sometimes hated) commercial rock/pop bands" by 1978, when they redefined their sound by embracing pop arrangements on their fourth album, Infinity.


According to the Recording Industry Association of America, Journey has sold 48 million albums in the U.S., making them the 25th best-selling band. Their worldwide sales have reached over 75 million records, making them one of the world's best-selling bands of all time. A 2005 USA Today opinion poll named Journey the fifth-best U.S. rock band in history. Their songs have become arena rock staples and are still played on rock radio stations across the world. Journey ranks No. 96 on VH1's 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.

Journey was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with the class of 2017. Inductees included lead singer Steve Perry, guitarist Neal Schon, keyboardists Jonathan Cain and Gregg Rolie, bassist Ross Valory, and drummers Aynsley Dunbar and Steve Smith.

Betty Davis - Funk Goddess


Betty Davis foi esposa de Miles Davis. Cantora negra de Funk & Soul. A historia conta que teve um affair com Jimmi Hendrix. O som é de primeira, um funk no estilo James Brown

There would be no Prince, Madonna, Jimi Hendrix, Miles Davis (in the 1970’s), or Lil Kim, if it weren’t for Betty Davis and her explosive, courageous, erotic, gender bending, bluesy, and funky music. Betty’s voice purrs, growls, and scratches through her deliciously written lyrics. A blues woman to the bone, Betty took her southern roots, and mixed them with raw funk, soul, and psychedelic rock. A woman well ahead of her time, she pushed boundaries with her avant-garde fashion sense, amazing afro, and provocative lyrics. There is one testimonial about Betty Davis that is universal: she was a woman ahead of her time. In our contemporary moment, this may not be as self-evident as it was thirty years ago – we live in an age that’s been profoundly changed by flamboyant flaunting of female sexuality: from Parlet to Madonna, Lil Kim to Kelis. Yet, back in 1973 when Betty Davis first showed up in her silver go-go boots, dazzling smile and towering Afro, who could you possibly have compared her to? Marva Whitney had the voice but not the independence. Labelle wouldn’t get sexy with their “Lady Marmalade” for another year while Millie Jackson wasn’t “Feelin’ Bitchy” until 1977. Even Tina Turner, the most obvious predecessor to Betty’s fierce style wasn’t completely out of Ike’s shadow until later in the decade.

22 year old Betty met brilliant trumpeter and bandleader Miles Davis who was almost twice her age. Miles could not resist the undeniable coolness that Betty exuded, so he had to know her. The steamy pair married in 1969 only after a year of knowing each other. By this time Betty had already graced the cover of Miles’s 1968 album, Filles de Killimanjaro. “Mademoiselle Mabry” served as Miles’s muse as well as a very influential musician in his life. During the pivotal two years they were together, Betty introduced Miles to the sounds of her good friend Jimi Hendrix, who middle aged Miles was not hip to. Inspired by the sounds of the younger generation Miles decided to push his music to uncharted territory, and thus spawned  “fusion.” Miles completely reinvented himself and released the ground breaking album Bitches Brew in 1970, which Betty also helped name.

89 FM - A Rádio Rock

Uma das melhores notícias para os órfãos da rádio rock (e pra quem não conhecia e vai poder conhecer).

A lendária 89 FM – A Rádio Rock, de São Paulo, está de volta ar!
A reestréia oficial aconteceu no dia 21/12/2012 e agora a rádio passa a se chamar UOL 89FM.
Antes dessa volta, a Rádio Rock ficou no ar de 1985 a 2006 no dial 89.1 de São Paulo e foi retransmitida em muitas cidades do país.
Para explicar aos jovens de hoje, naquela época os álbuns de vinil eram relativamente caros, som no carro com toca fitas eram caríssimos (computador tinha tela verde e nem se pensava em multimídia). Uma rádio que tocava Rock valia ouro. E não era só isso, além de tocar os clássicos do Rock, trazia novidades. Era comum gravar fitas K7 com a programação da rádio, nos antigos aparelhos 3 em 1.
Recebi com muita alegria esta notícia, mostrando que som bom ainda tem espaço neste mundo. Para comemorar, vou postar umas bandas que conheci através da 89 FM, A Rádio Rock.






Concert: The Cure Live is the first live album of English rock band The Cure. It was recorded in 1984 at the Hammersmith Odeon in London and in Oxford.

The Cure é uma banda de rock inglesa formada em 1976 em Crawley, Inglaterra. Robert Smith é o líder da banda e único elemento constante desde a sua formação, além de se manter responsável sozinho por sua direcção musical, sendo produtor, cantor, compositor e multi-instrumentista.





The Cult é uma banda de rock, formada em Yorkshire, Inglaterra, em 1984, por ex-membros das bandas Southern Death Cult, Theatre Of Hate e posteriormente Death Cult.
No fim dos anos 70, um jovem chamado Ian Astbury decidiu criar uma banda. Este foi o início do Southern Death Cult, um grupo de rock gótico pós-punk. A música do grupo não combinava totalmente com o seu estilo, uma vez que Astbury era muito influenciado pela música e visuais dos anos 60.
Em 1983, com o fim do Southern Death Cult, Ian Astbury junta-se a Billy Duffy (guitarra, ex-Theatre of Hate), Jamie Stewart (baixo, ex-Ritual) e Ray Mondo (bateria), e a banda passa a se chamar Death Cult.
Em julho de 1983, a banda lançou Death Cult, um EP com quatro canções. Em setembro do mesmo ano, Ray deixa a banda para dar lugar a Nigel Preston, (ex-Sex Gang Children). Com o novo baterista, o Death Cult lança em outubro de 1983 o single God Zoo.
Em uma sexta-feira, (13 de Janeiro de 1984), antes de fazerem um programa de TV, Ian decide que a banda passaria a se chamar The Cult, retirando, assim, a conotação "gótica" da banda. Astbury justificaria assim esta mudança: "nós somos mais vida do que morte".
Eu ouvi demais o álbum Love de 1985 e tocava muito na 89...







Diesel and Dust é o sexto álbum da banda australiana de rock Midnight Oil, lançado em 1987. Este álbum trouxe o sucesso internacional para a banda.
O Midnight Oil é conhecido em todo o mundo como uma banda de ideais políticos e ambientais fortes. Sua maneira de abordar tais temas a transformou suas canções em hinos e suas apresentações em comícios, mantendo vivo o espírito contestador e inconformista do rock. Os Oils, como são chamados pelos fãs, também ficaram conhecidos por terem obtido legalmente junto à gravadora o pleno controle sobre sua obra artística, não se submetendo as regras do mercado fonográfico.
