The Many Faces of Deep Purple

Along with Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, Deep Purple is the third piece of the marvelous trinity who are the creators of heavy metal. The story of Deep Purple as a band continues to this day and has weathered many a storm and changes of band members. With a handful of albums that are considered true classics of universal rock today, (In Rock, Machine Head, Live In Japan, Burn), Deep Purple is one of the most influential groups that rock culture has given us. Here in The Many Faces we present a fascinating tour through the parallel works of the band´s abundant genealogy, as well as a pair of surprises that make of this album a must have. Deep Purple were ranked number 22 on VH1's Greatest Artists of Hard Rock programme and a British radio station Planet Rock poll ranked them 5th among the "most influential bands ever".At the 2011 Classic Rock Awards in London, they received the Innovator Award. In October 2012, Deep Purple were nominated for the first time for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but were not voted in the following March. In October 2013, the band was announced as a Hall of Fame nominee for a second time.

The Many Faces of Yes

Along with Emerson, Lake & Palmer, King Crimson and Genesis, Yes is without a doubts the most important of the British progressive rock band of all time. The original sound of the group was a something never Heard of when its self- titled debut album came out in 1969. In The Many Faces of Yes we present an unknown side of the band, with recordings by the group as a whole and also by solo members, including rarities and other gems. On CD1, "The BBC Sessions", we present the group with their original line up (Jon Anderson on vocals, Peter Banks on guitar, Bill Bruford on drums, Chris Squire on bass and Tony Kaye on keyboards) with their performances in London's BBC Radio. They play songs from their first album "Sweetness, Looking Around" plus a fantastic version of The Beatles' "Every Little Thing". It also contains material from their second album "Time And A Word" (1970): "Then", "Everydays", "Sweet Dreams", "Astral Traveller" and the audacious version of "No Opportunity Necessary, No Experience Needed" by Richie Havens. In these incredible BBC Sessions we can also find "Dear Father", a song that appeared (in a studio version) many years later in the "Yesterdays" compilation. It also contains a couple of unreleased tracks: "Somethin's Coming" and "For Everyone". CD2 is titled "Before And After Yes Projects" and contains songs by several members of the group recorded before and after they were part of the band. We start with the monumental "Catherine Howard", from the unforgettable album "The Six Wives Of Henry VIII" by keyboard player Rick Wakeman. Then we follow up with songs by "Flash" (the project that guitarist Peter Banks put together after he left the group in 1970). We also present two songs "Lifetime" and "Monday Morning Eyes," from "In The Can" the band's second album, released in 1972. This amazing selection is completed with "The Last Eclipse" from "Two Sides Of Peter Banks", Banks' solo debut. It's worth no note that he wrote the álbum along some of the best progressive rock's musicians from that era: (Phil Collins, guitarist Jan Akkerman from Focus and Steve Hackett from Genesis). CD3, is titled "Playin' Their Favourite Songs" and its name says it all. Members and former members of Yes playing songs from Pink Floyd, Genesis and even the AOR classic "More Than A Feeling" by Boston. The Many Faces of Yes, is an essential album for any collector of symphonic rock. The Many Faces of Yes presents an unknown side of the band, with recordings by the group as a whole and also by solo members, including rarities and other gems.

Odyssice (Dutch Prog Rock)

Peter's gift
Odyssice is a Dutch progressive rock band. The band name comes from a fantasy name associated with Greek mythology. It was founded in 1986 by Bastiaan Peeters (guitar), André Hubbeling (keyboards) and Alan Natele (drums). The group's track, "Track One" was played on the Dutch radio-show, Countdown Café, in 1987. Well known bands such as IQ, Pendragon and Oblique had tracks played on this radio-show.

This Dutch prog rock band is rooted in the late Eighties, the prime mover was guitar player Bastiaan Peeters and two American friends on drums and keyboards. In '87 ODYSSICE released their debut-demo "Track one", a fine blend of RUSH and CAMEL. The future looked bright when ODYSSICE even reached the national radio (the famous live rock-program Countdown Café) and they played on a prog rock festival in Belgium along with NOW, EASTERN WIND and fellow Dutchmen EGDON HEATH in '89. The line-up in those days was Bastiaan Peeters (guitar), Bart Kuhne (drums), Erik Aafjes (bass) and Andrae Hubbeling (keyboards). Unfortunately some members were not able to concentrate on the band. The band seemed to belong to the past but in '96 ODYSSICE made a mini-CD (four songs) entitled "Moondrive", it has strong echoes from CAMEL (melodic and Latimer-like guitarplay). Bastiaan recruited for this CD Jeroen van der Wiel on keyboards, Pascal van de Pol on bass and Bart Kuhne on drums.  In '97 ODYSSICE were invited to perform on the Dutch prog rock festival Progfarm.

Drummer Menno Boomsma replaced Bart Kuhne, he was too busy with his work and skating (a typical Dutch sport). Their performance was a success and things started to grow for ODYSSICE. In 2000 ODYSSICE released the CD entitled "Impressions", a strong, 24-carat symphonic rock album with echoes from CAMEL but also some ethnic elements. It has very decent sales for an own production. In 2003 "Moondrive" was re-released as "Moondrive Plus" with two bonus tracks ("Losing Her" and "Powerloc") and some extra's. Meanwhile Pascal van de Pol is replaced by Gijs Koopman (ex-CLIFFHANGER) who's not only a very good (Rickenbacker) bass player but also skillful on keyboards and Moog Taurus bass pedals. The prog fans are eagerly waiting for a new ODYSSICE album in 2004. The album "Impressions" is in the vein of the mini-CD "Moondrive" but with more mature and alternating compositions. Jeroen delivers a lush keyboard sound (piano, Mellotron - and Moogsamples) in some songs but the focus is on Bastiaan Peeter with his sensitive guitar play and the use of a guitar-synthesizer (spectacular - and surprising sounds). The progress of this band is emphasized by the integration of ethnic elements from Scotland, China and India, very beautiful and a proof that ODYSSICE is on the way to develop their own sound. I'm sure this album will please a lot of symphomaniacs!

The Many Faces of Genesis

Genesis are definitely special in the world of popular music. They began as a group absolutely worship, then lost their singer and charismatic leader (Peter Gabriel), but were replaced by their drummer (Phil Collins) and, with him to the front, they met a level of unexpected popularity. In our hit series 'The Many Faces' explore the inner world of Genesis, little-known projects of its members, their collaborations, we also include some of their most emblematic songs in unfamiliar versions and discover the beginnings of the group, when they were still a group of students who never suspected that Genesis would become one of the names bound in the Rock Culture of all time. The Many Faces Of Genesis is a basic disc, showing the scenes of a single band.

Strange compilation due for release in March
A few month ago, Genesis have released a new 3CD-compilation called R-Kive. The release produced some discussions among fans.... Now, a new, but somewhat strange collection of songs is due for release on 2nd March. The Many Faces Of Genesis is also a 3CD-set, but it's very likely the band has not been involved at all. There are a couple of solo songs on the compilation, especially by Steve Hackett, Anthony Phillips and Tony Banks, then we have some collaborations many fans might not be aware of and a full CD with songs from the band's first album period, called The Jonathan King Sessions.

Come Together - Black America Sings Lennon - McCartney

Ace presents the soul, R&B and blues worlds' take on the music and lyrics of two young men from Liverpool, whose work as both songwriters and group members completely changed the way the world looked at popular music. The songs of John Lennon and Paul McCartney were frequently covered in all fields of music. It was inevitable that many of the best covers would emerge from a genre of popular music that was so important to all four Beatles. Come Together presents a cross-section of Lennon & McCartney covers from artists as diverse as hard-core bluesman Lowell Fulson and supreme exponents of 'sweet soul', the Moments, via such stellar names as Al Green, Chubby Checker, Little Richard, Otis Redding and Aretha Franklin. The range of repertoire covers virtually the entire recording and songwriting career of Lennon & McCartney, and embraces both their first big US hit I Wanna Hold Your Hand and their last, The Long And Winding Road. Many of the inclusions will, we're sure, come as complete surprises even to those who think they know their Beatles covers inside out.

Laurie Anderson

Laura Phillips "Laurie" Anderson (born June 5, 1947) is an American experimental performance artist, composer and musician who plays violin and keyboards and sings in a variety of experimental music and art rock styles. Initially trained as a sculptor, Anderson did her first performance-art piece in the late 1960s. Throughout the 1970s, Anderson did a variety of different performance-art activities. She became widely known outside the art world in 1981 when her single "O Superman" reached number two on the UK pop charts.

She also starred in and directed the 1986 concert film Home of the Brave. Anderson is a pioneer in electronic music and has invented several devices that she has used in her recordings and performance art shows. In 1977, she created a tape-bow violin that uses recorded magnetic tape on the bow instead of horsehair and a magnetic tape head in the bridge. In the late 1990s, she developed a talking stick, a six-foot-long baton-like MIDI controller that can access and replicate sounds.

Anderson started dating Lou Reed in 1992, and was married to him from 2008 until his death on October 27, 2013.
