DSCHINN - Psych Krautrock • Germany

DSCHINN are a 1970s German Krautrock band with a classic energetic hard rock sound. Their only album was released in 1972, a self-titled release with the artists involved being Bernd Capito on lead guitar, vocals, Peter Lorenz on rhythm guitar, vocals, Uli Mund on drums, percussion, Athanasios Paltoglou on drums, percussion, and Silvio Verfürth on bass, vocals.

The music is vintage 70s, with heavy guitars and an emphasis on lead breaks and riffs. The sound is similar to German bands TEA, POPOL ACE and POPOL VUH.

The band utilise two dynamic drummers and powerful lead vocals. The bass generates solid rhythms and there are passages including harmonica and a rocking BEATLES type of sound. The music is primarily upbeat incorporating strong melodic guitars with some progressive elements.

POVERTY'S NO CRIME - Progressive Metal • Germany

Poverty's No Crime biography (http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=952)
POVERTY'S NO CRIME is a Progressive Metal band founded in 1991 by Volker Walsemann (vocals & guitars), Marco Ahrens (guitars), Christian Scheele (bass), Marcello Maniscalco (keyboards) and Andreas Tegeler (drums). In the beginings of the band, they Released demos like, "My Favourite Delusion" and "Perfect Wings".

Their debut album, "Symbiosis ", was released in Spring 1995 and was warmly greeted by the press. "With this homogenous, deep and convincing CD debut, POVERTY'S NO CRIME have more fulfilled their inherent promise and have formed a solid foundation for their future", praised Rock Hard, one of Germany`s two mega-metal-mags.

POVERTY'S NO CRIME found a new business (and ideological) home at Inside Out, currently Germany`s most important Prog-Metal label, who also have such great bands as SPOCKS BEARD, SYMPHONY X, VANDEN PLAS, and PLATYPUS under their contractual wing. Inside Out are known of signing only a certain, carefully and selected contingent of bands, whom they know they can support with great enthusiasm. In view of this, the liaison between POVERTY'S NO CRIME and Inside Out seems to be under a lucky star.
In the late 1999 POVERTY'S NO CRIME faced the first major line-up change when Marcello Maniscalco on the keyboards and bass player Christian Scheele left the band for other projects. Unimpressed by this loss, new material was written just by the remaining three musicians. However, just before entering the studio for the recordings of One in a Million the right guy for the vacant position behind the keyboards was found: Jörg Springub proved his perfect fit for the band with an impressing performance on the record.

Hamilton Loomis - Blues Funk Rock (USA)

Hamilton Michael Loomis (born November 1, 1975) is an American electric blues guitarist, singer, songwriter, and record producer. One of his eight albums released to date, Ain't Just Temporary, peaked at number 7 in the Billboard Top Blues Albums Chart in September 2007.

In describing Loomis' musical style, Guitar Player magazine once stated "If blues, soul, and rock can be said to form a triangle, you’ll find Hamilton Loomis right in the centre of it".

MARTIGAN - Neo-Prog • Germany

This Cologne-based foursome from the mid-80's plays some fine neo-prog in the best tradition of IQ, JADIS, PENDRAGON, early MARILLION and SAGA, but with a subtle and very pleasant flavour of their own. They went through quite a few line changes and now feature Alex Bisch on drums, brother Björn Bisch on guitars, Peter Kindler on bass, Oliver Strahl on keyboards and Kai Marckwordt on bass, guitar, sax, flute and lead vocals (a cross between Phil Collins and Dave Cousins, his vocals are truly outstanding).

Since the mid 90's, the band released two full-length albums and a maxi CD before the excellent "Man of the Moment" (2002); this one is the most mature of the lot and contains no weak tracks. Although no one really stands out, the musicianship is always sharp, the songwriting well crafted and the vocals sincere and powerful. If you wish, you can hear the entire album on their website; the files are highly compressed, however, and the sound quality is very poor.

If you're into neo prog and the words 'strongly melodic', 'accessible' and 'lush/full sound' appeal to you, you definitely ought to give their 2002 album a try. We are talking major-league neo-prog here.

The Mod Jazz Collection

The collection is drawn primarily from the catalogue of East Coast label Prestige, with added tracks from the Riverside, Battle, Galaxy and Fantasy imprints. Not surprisingly, having had first dibs on those great sources, the music is of the highest quality and has not only stood the test of time but has added followers over the years, many of whom were too young to dig those crazy beats first time around. Whenever a new “Mod Jazz” CD is issued, the back catalogue gets a boost, and it’s this first in the series that still tops the sales chart.

Featured are indispensable dance tracks such as Mongo Santamaria’s ‘Yeh-Yeh!’, Shirley Scott’s ‘Soul Shoutin’’, Mose Allison’s ‘Seventh Son’ and ‘Whip It On Me’ by Billy Hawks. There are also laidback, cool vocals via Mark Murphy’s ‘Why Don’t You Do Right?’, Jimmy Witherspoon’s ‘Money’s Gettin’ Cheaper’ and ‘I’ve Got Your Number’ by Pat Bowie. Other highspots include the Otis Spann blues ‘I’m Ready’, Cal Tjader’s superfine ‘Evil Ways’ and the everlovin’ ‘Theme From The Pink Panther’ by Brother Jack McDuff.

This album will be a boon to vinyl DJs who now don’t need to carry a boxful of LPs around when this one will do the job on its own. It will also act as a comfort to those of us who love the visual accompaniment of a revolving turntable and hovering stylus with our vintage jazz grooves.

MASTERPLAN - Prog Related • Multi-National

MASTERPLAN is the joining in a new band by a number of people who made their marks in rock. Originally it was formed by two ex-Helloween mates guitarist Roland Grapow and drummer Uli Kusch. After extensive search they found a singer in Jorn Lande (ex-The Snakes, Millenium) who left all bands in order to give full force to this band..

"Masterplan" is an album with highly melodic prog metal, a bit more metal than prog. This combined with a series of strong compositions, only momentarily taking a detour towards somewhat to hardrocky stuff (Heroes), results in quite something. This has resulted in an album that approaches the quality of an Ark album, yet is more accessible. Highly recommended for Power Prog heads, and fans of Lande in general.

Vodka Collins - Rock (Japan)

Vodka Collins is a Tokyo based Japanese-American rock band, formed in 1971. The core band members are drummer Hiroshi Oguchi (formerly of The Tempters), singer-guitarist Alan Merrill, singer-guitarist Hiroshi "Monsieur" Kamayatsu (formerly of The Spiders) and bassist Take Yokouchi (formerly of the Four Leaves backing band, High Society). In later reunion recordings in the 1990s, Yokouchi was replaced by Masayoshi "Mabo" Kabe (formerly of The Golden Cups) on bass guitar.

All of the band's released works are original compositions by the lead singer Alan Merrill. The band has made 5 albums, the most well known being the glam rock album "Tokyo - New York" released in 1973 on EMI records. Other album titles are Chemical Reaction, Pink Soup', Boy's Life and Boys In The Band. The band's most valuable contribution territorially was recording and releasing the first single in the glam rock genre in Japanese, 1972's double a-sided single "Sands Of Time"' and '"Automatic Pilot"' on EMI records.

Vodka Collins were the opening act on the Jackson 5's first show in Japan on April 27, 1973 at the Imperial Theater in Tokyo. The show was broadcast live on Fuji Television.

There was a memorial concert for him with all the original band members performing on stage January 25 of 2010 at the Duo Exchange venue in Tokyo with Grico Tomioka taking Oguchi's place on drums. The band's rhythm guitarist, Monsieur Kamayatsu, died on March 1, 2017. Lead singer Alan Merrill did a memorial concert for Kamayatsu with star guests in Tokyo April 2017 at the Duo Music Exchange.

Mundanus Imperium - Dark Progressive Metal (Norway)

Mundanus Imperium was a Norwegian dark progressive metal band established at Hamar in 1994 under the name Nattefall.

Once upon a time this Norwegian band was firmly in the black metal camp, but by the time of their debut album, they had transformed into a progressive/power metal band, with some black metal remnants (notably the keyboards) left in. Vocalist J?rn Lande (then an unknown, and probably not a part of the band in its early days) displayed a strong voice and a 70's style, reminiscent of singers such as Ronnie James Dio or Ian Gillan. There's a noticeable symphonic/classical feel to the songs, with the end result being a pretty interesting album, and what appeared to be a start to a solid career. debut. For whatever reason, however, the band soon disappeared from sight, and apart from Lande later joining Ark (and after that, Masterplan), the members were never heard from again.

Nattefall was a black metal band composed by bassist and drummer Lars Wiik and keyboardist Bent E. Holm. After releasing the demo Ode to the Nightsky in 1996, interest was shown by the company Velvet Music. The band changed its name to Mundanus Imperium and the demo was released as EP in 1997. Petter J. Thuve (guitar) and Jørn Lande (vocal) were recruited and the style was changed to dark progressive metal. The following year, the band's only full-length music album, The Spectral Spheres Coronation, came. The band was dissolved in 1998.

Red Garland - Jazz Piano (USA)

William McKinley "Red" Garland, Jr. (May 13, 1923 – April 23, 1984) was an American modern jazz pianist. Known for his work as a bandleader and during the 1950s with Miles Davis, Garland helped popularize the block chord style of piano playing. Garland's trademark block chord technique, a commonly borrowed maneuver in jazz piano today, was unique and differed from the methods of earlier block chord pioneers such as George Shearing and Milt Buckner. Garland's block chords were constructed of three notes in the right hand and four in the left hand, with the right hand one octave above the left. Garland's left hand played four-note chords that simultaneously beat out the same exact rhythm as the right-hand melody played. But unlike George Shearing's block chord method, Garland's left-hand chords did not change positions or inversions until the next chord change occurred. It is also worth noting that Garland's four-note left-hand chord voicings frequently left out the roots of the chords, a chord style later associated with pianist Bill Evans.
