Banda Vovó do Mangue - Alternative Rock (Brazil)

Vovó do Mangue is a band from the city of Maragogipe - Bahia, in May of 1993, conceptually created by a group of close friends, having in its first formation Junior of Major (voice), Sérgio Dias (guitar), Luiz Carlos Brasileiro ( battery) and Marcos Antônio (bass). After a few presentations and demos, the band undergoes transformations and, in 1996, it is formed with its classical and current formation, with the entrance of Francisco Alecy (Baixo) and Gustavo Melo (guitar). From that moment, the band launches a variety of works and gains prominence in the Bahian alternative scene, participating in several festivals, notably Festival Garage Rock (1998), Palco do Rock (2000) and Recôncavo Biennial (1998, 2000, 2002 and 2004). In 1997, the cultural movement around the band encouraged the creation of the Vovó do Mangue Foundation, an internationally recognized institution that operates in some Bahian municipalities in the areas of environmental preservation, education, culture and social development. Between 2007 and 2014 the band was without activities, returning in 2015 with its original formation and with the process of recording and compilation of its main compositions in its first disc - titled Vovó do Mangue -, that will be released in 2017.
