Palma - Symphonic Progressive Music (Brazil)

"12 Cycles" is an instrumental Progressive Symphonic disc (with only 1 wonderful vocalization of the singer Mylenne Areal in the track "Tarde" and a brief and also beautiful vocalization of the singer Paulo Loureiro in the track "No Chão as Marcas"), with 8 songs of varying sizes, ranging from 4:26 of the beautiful "Early Morning" to 14:57 of the fantastic "moonlit" suite and going through various tracks en 5:22 and 8:29.

With rich and varied instrumentation, the album counts on the participation of several exponents of the "Petropolitana" music, ranging from the prog-man Marco Aureh (Lummen and Anno Luz and participations in disc of the Tempus Fugit and Anima Dominum) in the flutes, keyboards guitars and Paulo Loureiro (Anno Luz), guitars, drums, keyboards and percussions, to the erudite musicians Joar Gelli (piano and keyboards) and Rodrigo D'Avila (regency, piano, keyboards, bass, etc.). guitars and basses.

SAENA - Symphonic Prog • Mexico

SAENA is one of the most recent wonders that have come out to the world of symphonic rock. Founded in Mexico by lifelong musical partners JOSE LUIS FERNANDEZ LEDESMA and Margarita BOTELLO, SAENA gathers five experienced and skillful musicians whose separate résumés are rooted in the areas of academic music, progressive rock, theatre soundtracks and fusion. All other three musicians have collaborated in FERNÁNDEZ LEDESMA's albums at one point or another.

The band took its name from one track in FERNÁNDEZ LEDESMA's "Designios" (his most symphonic-oriented album, an oddity among his predominantly RIO-inspired discography). SAENA's music is essentially symphonic, yet instilling elements of fusion and chamber-rock in such a cordial manner that they add richness instead of contrast to the core sound. Among the abundant keyboard layers and guitar ornaments, it is the violin that usually assumes the leading role during the instrumental excursions. Compositionally speaking, the material is rich enough in terms of finesse and feeling as to sustain the expansions generated by the musicians' interactions.

To a degree, influences from YES, GENTLE GIANT and PFM are noticeable, but SAENA has promptly come up with a symphonic style of its own. In its few dark moments the band seems to slightly flirt with UNIVERS ZERO. The band's fusion leanings will also make them appealing to those who already love AMAROK, KOTEBEL and the softer side of compatriot band CABEZAS DE CERA.

SUBTERRA - Neo-Prog • Chile

SUBTERRA is a Chilean neo-prog band that started in 1996 as a Fish-Era MARILLION cover band. The band is composed of six players, including two guitarists. It wasn't until 2001 that the band released their debut "Sombras de Invierno" which, not surprisingly, was in the early MARILLION style, but with vocals in Spanish.

In 2005 the band moved away from their MARILLION influences and produced the album "Cautiverio". With this album they moved in a darker and heavier direction while still retaining the 1970's influence, especially in the keyboards.

TAU CETI - Jazz Rock/Fusion • Brazil

TAU CETI is a brazilian instrumental symphonic progressive rock band, from Sao Paulo, whose tendency brings back the style of the classic progressive groups of the 70's, like Emerson, Lake & Palmer and U.K. The musicians : Eduardo DElboux (keyboards), Ze do Baixo (bass) and Ricardo Stuani (drums).

The band was formed in 1988, and its première CD, "Tau Ceti", was released by Faunus Records/Brazil in 1995, three years after the recordings sessions. It includes nine D'Elboux's compositions, three individual solos of the three members of the band and an arrangement of Bach's Toccata in D minor.

TAU CETI had been inactive from 1993 to 1996, but D'Elboux was returned in a solo career in 1997. Between 1999 and 2001, he played with the neo-prog brazilian band MOONSHADOW, and now he is reorganizing TAU CETI for a future CD.

GOVEA - Symphonic Prog • Mexico

Some months ago we received a suggestion to include the Mexican Power Trio GOVEA in Symphonic, so we started the research, and the first information we got was that the band was formed by Salvador Govea in the keyboards, Victor Valdovinos percussion and Luis Arturo Guerrero in the bass, with this small amount of data, ELP came to my mind, so when I got their debut album Danza Urbana, was expecting a classical oriented band with strong keyboards, pompous arrangements and a lot of self indulgence (which to be honest I enjoy).

But our surprise was huge, even when the band had obvious Classical formation and clear 70's approach, their sound was extremely complex with some Avant Garde elements and as expected in a Mexican band ethnic components that made the music richer but strangely their performances were sober and correct without excessive pomp.

Our first decision was to send them to Eclectic because of the diversity of sounds, but at the end we decided that the best place for GOVEA is with us.

In their website they mention bands like ELP, King Crimson, PFM, Triumvirat and Le Orme among others as their main influence, but I respectfully disagree, their style even when impacted by ELP, is much more sober and formal, with a huge Neo Classical Component that makes them different, and if we add the already mentioned Mexican atmosphere, we got a unique band that deserves a place in Prog Archives because their own merits and not any influence that in any case is not determinant in their music.

We will be constantly looking at them and expecting that the excellent Danza Urbana is only the first release of a prolific career, because we need healthy bands with a classical sound but with a new and original approach as GOVEA.

Muchas Gracias Magal!!!

Arbatel - Progressive Rock (Mexico)

ARBATEL is one of the potentially significant and important prog rock groups from Mexico, since, with a straight passion for this kind of music, they've imposed themselves through numerous performances, two major releases, and a bit of influential activity as well. All the past and current musicians of this ensemble have in fact placed their hometown, Zacatecas, on the prog rock map of the world, being allegedly the first fully-fledged prog band of that city. Afterwards, ARBATEL has evolved, slowly and patiently, ending up to be well-appreciated by all Mexican proggers, and not only.

3.2 (Robert Berry & Keith Emerson) - Prog Music

Singer, multi-instrumentalist & producer Robert Berry’s new album, “The Rules Have Changed”, will be released under the name 3.2 on Frontiers Music on August. The Japanese Edition will appear tomorrow with a bonus track. The full-length album will feature musical contributions by the late Keith Emerson, whom Berry was a bandmate with in the band 3 and released a superb album in the Eighties. This is the last musical project in which Emerson was involved prior to his untimely passing in 2016.

The working relationship between the legendary keyboard player Keith Emerson and singer and multi-instrumentalist Robert Berry started in 1987. Iconic manager Brian Lane (Yes, Asia, A-Ha, It Bites etc.) and Carl Palmer arranged a meeting between the two prolific musicians.
The plan was to form a more melodic, song oriented band (compared to ELP), which would allow Emerson, Berry and Palmer to follow in the footsteps of the success that Asia and GTR were enjoying in that period.

The result of that collaboration between Emerson, Berry and Palmer was the band “3”, and the album “... To The Power of Three” released worldwide by Geffen Records in 1988.
The first single, “Talkin' 'Bout” reached #9 on the Billboard Magazine charts and the band toured the US to support the album. With the success of the first release, Geffen urged the band to go back into the studio to begin work on a second album, but Emerson felt uncomfortable with Geffen’s momentum stifling, inconsistent strategy that ultimately cut the first album's success short, consequently prompting the band to call it quits.

At the time of their breakup several songs were already written for that second release (later released on Robert Berry’s solo album, “Pilgrimage to a Point”).
In October 2015, conversations about a new “3” album started between Robert Berry and Frontiers, as Robert had been speaking to Keith about releasing the long delayed 3 follow up album.

Along with renewed fan interest in the band and those conversations, Berry had sparked revived enthusiasm from Keith Emerson for pursuing the project. The exchange of musical ideas and song collaborations ultimately paved the groundwork for this new release to be called 3.2.

Everything was set. Song ideas, studio time, record contract… and then, that dark day. Emerson’s untimely death made the album an uncertainty. Robert was left with Keith Emerson’s final musical ideas for the project. From old cassette tapes, keyboard parts written over the phone, to long discussions about style, the framework of the album was set and ready to be produced.

After several months of grieving and contemplation about what to do with these co-written songs and musical fragments from Emerson, Robert decided to resume work on the material that was created and craft a record that would ultimately be a fitting tribute to Keith Emerson’s musical legacy and at the same time re-energize and update the musical style started with ‘3’ some 30 years ago.

The final result is 3.2, a reboot of the original “3” project, centered on Robert Berry’s amazing talents.
This is a record that deserves to be heard by each and every fan of the great Keith Emerson and includes some exquisite musical parts, which every progressive music fan will be delighted to indulge in.

Krautrock - Music for Your Brain (All 5 BOXES)

Krautrock was (and still is) a musical phenomenon that sprouted in Germany in the late '60's and early '70's. Combining elements of Psychedelia, Prog Rock, Art Rock and Avante-Garde, Krautrock became a movement unto itself. This collection (with 4 boxes with 6 CDs) anthology features cuts from Nektar, Franz K., Guru Guru, Eloy, Pell Mell, and many others. Great too see Amon Duul 2, Eloy ( 2 tracks from first album ), Embryo, Guru Guru, Popul Vuh, Faust , Jane, Klaus Schulze, on here. A perfect starter too get into Krautrock.
_________________________________________________________________________________
This is an extraordinary compilation of the genre known as 'Krautrock'. On four Boxes with six CDs in nearly 480 minutes per box, you will find an overview of all the great music of the 'Deutschrock'-phase.

It has never happened before that such a huge spectrum of bands and artists of so many varying styles within the genre is found on one compilation. So, it is an absolute highlight for fans and beginners!

Even the history is outstanding and unique. Andreas Baumann from Target Music asked me some months ago, whether I would be interested in creating an ultimate list of the 'Krautrock', to be used for an upcoming release of a 6CD - compilation. He introduced me to Rudolf Vogel, who lives in the south of Germany. He knew Rudi by pure chance. This was absolutely amazing for me, and we got perfect partners for this task. Rudi was completely familiar with the scenes in the south and I knew everything of the north. So we matched in every way. After a few weeks the work was finished and we presented a list of 300 titles which would represent their overview of 'Krautrock'. Hard to believe, but we never had troubles or disputes about titles or bands to put in this list.

When this was done, it was time to search for the rights of these tracks. Responsible for this was Uwe Grünert from Universal, who supported us all the time and was passionately involved in the project. He was able to secure the right to use 67 of them - enough to build this collection. Rudi and I worked on the tracklists of the six CDs and on what we considered the ideal song distribution. We were totally free in our decisions. So you will not find any filler on this compilation, only tracks which were hand-picked by Rudi and I.
Rudi, who is already a member of our association, Andreas and I enjoyed this perfect and unique teamwork. We, of the German Rock association, were always informed about every phase of this project, and we were even involved in the design and the layout. For this, Rudi and I would like to thank Target Music!

So, in the name of the German Rock association, I give an absolute recommendation to this compilation. I hope that it will be very successful, so that the rest of our list will be out in following releases.

Kurt Mitzkatis
President of the German Rock association
