Funky Beats collects ten random funk, soul, and soul-jazz cuts from the Prestige vaults. There are no real surprises here and it tends to be a little bit kitschy in certain areas, but on the whole, there are enough strong, funky, infectious tunes here to keep listeners interested. It does get a little samey at times, but on the whole, it's a solid, entertaining collection of spirited instrumentals.
