Chick Corea, Eddie Gómez & Airto Moreira - Jazz

While his career has been long and prolific, Chick Corea, has had surprisingly few albums entirely recorded in the piano trio format. There is, of course, the masterpiece Now He Sings, Now He Sobs with Miroslav Vitous and Roy Haynes, but others are few and far in between.

Corea corrected this situation in one big sweep with the ambitious Five Trios Series project. It is a set of five CDs featuring Corea in unique trio combinations with some of the greatest musicians: John Patitucci and Antonio Sanchez; Eddie Gomez and Jack DeJohnette; Christian McBride and Jeff Ballard; Eddie Gomez and Airto Moreira; and Hadrien Feraud and Richie Barshay. The first four CDs are being released as individual CDs with the Corea/Feraud/Barshay disc only available in the special Five Trios Box Set to be released later, which also includes an additional bonus CD containing extra tracks.

For this fourth disc of the Five Trio Series, Corea chose a live set with Eddie Gomez and Airto Moreira, recorded in 2006 at the Berklee Performance Center in Boston. Corea delves into the Bill Evans repertoire, with inspiration from Gomez, a long-time partner of the late Bill Evans. To celebrate the reunion with Moreira, Corea brings electronic keyboards and revisits a few Return To Forever classics: "500 Miles High" and "Some Time Ago - La Fiesta."

This free-wheeling, exciting and wild concert was recorded very well. Various instrumentations including Moreira's aresenal of exotic percussions are well balanced and presented cleary. Fourth of Chick Corea's Five Trios Series. Produced by Chick Corea. Recorded live at the Berklee Performance Center, Boston, MA on April 28, 2006 by Bernie Kirsh.
