Asoka - {Sweden; Psych/Folk/Prog/Fusion Rock}

Asoka from Malmö were formed in 1971 by the remnants of the excellent Taste Of Blues. This background was just detectable, as Asoka headed in a hard rock direction with loud guitar riffs augmented by hammond organ and eager percussion.  They also had a decent vocalist, offering hilarious lyrics (in Swedish). Some tracks contained a kind of 'Latin funk' similar to the early Santana and Kvartetten Som Sprängde.  Claes Ericsson and Robban Larsson later made two albums with the jazz-rock group Lotus.

Official Swedish hard rock psych release made directly from the master reels!!! Great album from 1971. The CD also includes 8 exclusive bonustracks featuring Asoka MK. II, MK.III, livesongs with TASTE OF BLUES and a 10 minute track with TAKE OFF (pre-Asoka). Pictures and complete story housed in a nice digipack!! These guys hit you with a sound featuring bombastic drumming with double bass drums, heavy stoner fuzz bass, hard riffing psychedelic guitars and teeth grinding Hammond organ topped off with some dreamy piano and brought home by frustrated shivering vocals. Yes! It's everything that must be included on a top heavy prog psych album and collector legend such as this!

Robban Larsson - guitars
Patrick Erixcon - vocals, bongos
Claes Ericsson - piano, organ
Kent "Tjobbe" Bengtson - bass
Alf "Daffy" Bengtson – drums
