Païkan And The Sadhus - Jazz, Funk & Soul (France)

Slick and heavy Afro-Funky nuggets from the Jazzman label and the debut release from talented young French funker Paikan. The Toulouse based Sitar maestro has studied violin, singing and music theory from the age of 5, which has lead to his infatuation with the Sitar, which he melds into various styles but settles for a hardcore funk sound on these three tracks. His label describe his sound as a "four way meeting of the minds between Shankar, Schifrin, Kuti and Hendrix" which sounds less hyperbolic and more true when these tracks are ingested, taking cues from soundtracks, tough club funk, and psyched rock with a defined Afro-aesthetic. If you love the Finders Keepers label or their associated exploits, you'll be itching for an affair with this one.
