Kong is the nephew of Leslie Kong, producer of many reggae bands from the early days, including The Wailers. (It was Kong's release The Best of the Wailers that angered the band so much that Peter Tosh cursed him.) Family legacy aside. Jamaikan reggae singer, born on April 18, 1947 and grown up in downtown Kingston. In the early 60s, he was founding member of the rocksteady group The Jamaicans.
The nephew of legendary 1960s Chinese-Jamaican reggae producer Leslie Kong – who was instrumental in launching the careers of Jimmy Cliff, Bob Marley and Desmond Dekker, among others – Jamaica-born I KONG is an old-school reggae icon in his own right.
