Krautrock was (and still is) a musical phenomenon that sprouted in Germany in the late '60's and early '70's. Combining elements of Psychedelia, Prog Rock, Art Rock and Avante-Garde, Krautrock became a movement unto itself. This collection (with 4 boxes with 6 CDs) anthology features cuts from Nektar, Franz K., Guru Guru, Eloy, Pell Mell, and many others. Great too see Amon Duul 2, Eloy ( 2 tracks from first album ), Embryo, Guru Guru, Popul Vuh, Faust , Jane, Klaus Schulze, on here. A perfect starter too get into Krautrock.

This is an extraordinary compilation of the genre known as 'Krautrock'. On four Boxes with six CDs in nearly 480 minutes per box, you will find an overview of all the great music of the 'Deutschrock'-phase.
It has never happened before that such a huge spectrum of bands and artists of so many varying styles within the genre is found on one compilation. So, it is an absolute highlight for fans and beginners!
Even the history is outstanding and unique. Andreas Baumann from Target Music asked me some months ago, whether I would be interested in creating an ultimate list of the 'Krautrock', to be used for an upcoming release of a 6CD - compilation. He introduced me to Rudolf Vogel, who lives in the south of Germany. He knew Rudi by pure chance. This was absolutely amazing for me, and we got perfect partners for this task. Rudi was completely familiar with the scenes in the south and I knew everything of the north. So we matched in every way. After a few weeks the work was finished and we presented a list of 300 titles which would represent their overview of 'Krautrock'. Hard to believe, but we never had troubles or disputes about titles or bands to put in this list.
When this was done, it was time to search for the rights of these tracks. Responsible for this was Uwe Grünert from Universal, who supported us all the time and was passionately involved in the project. He was able to secure the right to use 67 of them - enough to build this collection. Rudi and I worked on the tracklists of the six CDs and on what we considered the ideal song distribution. We were totally free in our decisions. So you will not find any filler on this compilation, only tracks which were hand-picked by Rudi and I.
Rudi, who is already a member of our association, Andreas and I enjoyed this perfect and unique teamwork. We, of the German Rock association, were always informed about every phase of this project, and we were even involved in the design and the layout. For this, Rudi and I would like to thank Target Music!
So, in the name of the German Rock association, I give an absolute recommendation to this compilation. I hope that it will be very successful, so that the rest of our list will be out in following releases.
Kurt Mitzkatis
President of the German Rock association
